    Hello Guys,
What was the deal with Toto, I heard that they were not so famous in the USA...
    Why ?
Anyway, everybody talk about Rosanna (who is a great shuffle) but for me Jeff did some better one with the same kind of ingredient (hit-hat a little bit open on each time, the ghost note, so tasty...)
Anyway, I give you my top 3 Jeff's shuffle list with Toto and tell me what do you think about...

    - Mama (Hydra)
    - Make Believe (Toto IV)
    - Animal (Past To Present 1977-1990)

I'm waiting for you opinion and possibly your top list !!!
    Take care everybody.

Hmmm, well you're asking the wrong guy here why TOTO is so underrated in the US. IMO, they are the most versatile band ever! Being that you're from France, when I visited in '89, TOTO was a very hot band among the cats I hung with. Europe is a different beast than the pop-hit starved US.

Today, TOTO is an old band (classic rock)...they are seen as an 80's band with basically two albums, TOTO I and TOTO IV. This is reality and the average listener knows tunes off these two recordings.

    There is a very good read that will get one researching if more info needed;
    Re: PBS' Frontline--
    The Way Music Died
The report is just plain sad. It regards pop music, so what hope is there for jazz, fusion, alternative artists? YIKES. It's a brutal biz!

    Jeff with TOTO
    Jazz Shuffles--
    IV: It's a Feeling
    Isolation: Endless
    Seventh One: Pamela

    Shuffles--general
    Fahrenheit: Could This Be Love
Seventh One: A Thousand Years; These Chains
Past 2 Present: Can You Hear What I'm Saying

    Hey PocketPlayer,
Thanks for your opinion and your link about the music business.
About your choice, "It's A Feeling" and "Endless" are not some shuffle for me...
"Isolation" is the only one Toto's album (with Jeff) without any shuffle !!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Both of the tunes above are indeed shuffles...jazz shuffles in the form of Pamela. "Endless" is one of the smoothest, coolest shuffles on record. It GROOVES man!

You sound like a "Mr. Friendly" kinda guy. I've had a "Change of Heart," "You've Got Me"...my bad on "It's a Feeling"...I've had "These Chains" around me lately, but "I Will Remember" the ultra cool "Waiting for Your Love" that has been sampled several times as another killer jazz shuffle.

    Hey PocketPlayer,
"Waiting for Your Love" is awesome !!!
I like this song very much !!!

Pamela is a shuffle yes, I'm listening "Endless" now, for me it's really not a shuffle, maybe during the verse but even here I don't think so...
Jeff play with two hand on the hi-hat and maybe that he plays two hi-hat tracks too (left side is a little bit different that the right...)
You can also listen this nice work (2 hi-hat tracks) on "Love Has Power".
It keeps the groove on the song, especially during the feel...
"It"s feeling" not a suffle too...
    It's a 4/4 straight ahead beat.

But maybe we don't see the shuffle in the same way...

    Do you know "Animal" ?
Man, Jeff is so great on this one...
And the snare drum sound, wow !!!

As stated above ..."I've had a "Change of Heart," "You've Got Me"...my bad on "It's a Feeling"...I've had "These Chains" around me lately,..." (get it?)

OK...I'll give on ENDLESS. It's got a bouncy feel and Jeff does play 16th notes giving it a "shuffle-like" feel during the verse. It's not as clear as Pamela or Waiting For Your Love. The feel is not straight 8th or 16th note. Even though he is not playing a traditional shuffle, the feel is a shuffle. When I play along with that tune, I play more of a shuffle, playing 8th notes with one hand on the hats and accenting with the other giving it more of a groove Jeff played on Stop Loving You.
Jeff also creates a great vibe on Til The End...again, a groove with a shuffle-like feel even though he is mostly playing 8th notes on the hats. Watching him on the TOTO video (w/Paula Abdul), Jeff makes this groove look so easy--just 8th notes with an accent here and there. NOT. This is one of the hardest TOTO songs to "get into"...at least for me.

Speaking of the Porcaro shuffle, Pearl Drum has a couple of new Dennis Chambers videos up (click on the Dennis Chambers picture on the front page). One of them is Dennis playing the Rosanna Shuffle, and then offering his variation of it, which is erm, pretty damn crazy.

That was an awesome story! It rings true to Jeff's character towards others and his freedom as an indivudual towards other drummers. Very cool stuff!!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Okay, now that is very kewl. Now that I downloaded that once, is there a way to put that on my hard drive by going through some kind of temp file? I read about that process once on this board, should've saved it.
